Participant Recruitment
The CCTO provides researchers with assistance in increasing awareness of, and recruitment to, clinical trials. Assigned to this task is the Cancer Clinical Trials Recruitment Specialist. This staff member works with Stanford Cancer Institute (SCI) faculty and research staff to gather and distribute information regarding SCC trials to patients, referring physicians and community groups.
Services Provided
The Cancer Clinical Trials Recruitment Specialist:
- Collaborates on SCI representation at local cancer-related conferences and special events.
- Informs patients, healthcare providers and community groups about Stanford cancer clinical trials that are open to accrual.
- Brainstorms about recruitment strategies and resources.
- Writes Featured Trials articles and Newly Opened Studies Listings for the SCC Clinical Research Newsletter.
- Connects SCI Disease Management Groups to print companies, mail houses and mailing lists for direct mail recruitment campaigns.
- Involved in writing or production of the following publications:
- Clinical Trials & Research Studies Listings Booklet Also known as the Pocket Guide, this quarterly directory is published for healthcare professionals and lists cancer clinical trials currently open to accrual at the SCI.
- Two-page Clinical Studies Information Sheet Created for the general public, patients and healthcare professionals, this flier explains what a clinical trial is and lists cancer resource phone numbers and websites.
- MD Community Newsletter, a quarterly publication that informs healthcare professionals about current Stanford Cancer Institute trials and research studies available for their patients. Three Clinical Research Groups, including Developmental Therapeutics, are featured in each issue.
- Clinical Studies Information Booklet Jul, 2010 Provided for patients and their families, this guide explains the basics of clinical studies.
- Recruitment Resources Produced for study coordinators, this booklet lists information to assist in accruing patients to cancer clinical trials and research studies.
The Cancer Clinical Trials Office welcomes suggestions on conferences and venues where it can display cancer clinical trials information. For assistance, contact the Cancer Clinical Trials Recruitment Specialist or call 650-725-2839.
