Diagnosis and Treatment of Skin Cancers
Melanoma Program
The Stanford Melanoma Program has a strong multidisciplinary focus involving dermatology, medical and surgical oncology, dermatopathology, nuclear medicine, and radiation oncology. Specialists have great expertise in prevention, early detection, and management of localized and metastatic melanoma. Our consultative and therapy-directed practice deals with all stages of melanoma, from diagnosis of the early lesions to therapy for late-stage disease.
Pigmented Lesion and Cutaneous Melanoma Clinic (PLCMC)
Patients with thin cutaneous melanoma (< 2mm depth) and individuals with clinical atypical nevi (moles) are managed in the Pigmented Lesion and Cutaneous Melanoma Clinic. This clinic was developed to follow patients diagnosed with melanoma and those at increased risk of melanoma based on mole pattern and family history.
Non-Melanoma: Basal Cell Carcinoma and Squamous Cell Carcinoma
Basal cell carcinoma and squamous cell carcinoma are the two most common forms of skin cancer (with basal cell carcinoma accounting for about 90% of all skin cancers in Caucasians). Both of these cancers are easily treated with surgery when caught early, and Stanford’s expert dermatologic and plastic surgeons are available to help with surgeries that could impact your appearance.
