Soft Tissue Sarcomas Expertise

Many soft tissue sarcomas are very rare. Physicians at the Sarcoma Program have both deep expertise in these unusual cancers, as well as the best technology available for diagnoses and treatment, including:

  • Surgical techniques to remove tumors while preserving as much of the affected body part in order to maintain normal function.
  • Intraoperative Radiotherapy allows delivery of high dose radiation therapy in the operating room after removal of the tumor mass, leading to a lowering of local relapse.
  • Targeted Therapies for gastrointestinal stromal tumors with tyrosine kinase inhibitors is an important focus for the group. Newer drugs are under investigation for this disease by the Sarcoma group.
  • Clinical Trials, including studies with anti-angiogenesis agents and hypoxia- activating agents are also available for various sarcoma subtypes.
