Obesity Prevention and Weight Control
Program researchers are investigating the efficacy of a wide range of community-based obesity prevention and weight loss strategies across all age groups and demographics. One aim of this work is to evaluate the impact of lifestyle changes and weight loss on breast, prostate and colorectal cancer incidence and outcomes.
Current research also includes:
- obesity prevention trials with children in the Mexican-American community, using culturally-specific materials and data collection strategies
- community-based research in local junior high and high schools to promote obesity and smoking prevention and improve physical activity and nutrition
- randomized trials of diet and exercise for weight loss in men and women
- a study to determine whether changing diet before level of physical activity, or level of physical activity before diet, makes a difference in long-term lifestyle changes and weight loss
