Research InterestDr. Michael F. Clarke is the Associate Director of the Stanford Institute for Stem Cell and Regenerative Medicine. In addition to his clinical duties in the division of Oncology, Dr. Clarke maintains a laboratory focused on two areas of research: i) the control of self-renewal of normal stem cells and their malignant counterparts; and ii) the identification and characterization of cancer stem cells. Research InterestClinical research focused on the diagnosis, prevention and treatment of anal cancer and its precursor lesions. Clinical trials of ablative therapy for High-grade Squamous Intraepithelial Lesions (HSIL) of the anus and perianal tissues as a means for preventing anal cancer. Basic science work in collaboration with Ronald Davis and Hanlee Ji focused on the molecular genetic and pathologic studies of anal cancers using moecular inversion probe genomic technology
