Research & Scholarship

Current Research and Scholarly Interests

I am a statistician and biomathematician who develops and implements models and methods for complex, and not-so-complex, data in the medical sciences. I am also interested in what might be called statistical epistemology - the interplay between fundamental statistical properties (such as variability, bias, significance, and replication) and how scientists actually use and interpret data. Much of my research has been in the areas of methodological and applied statistical genetics: including the Plaid biclustering model for gene expression data; twin, genetic association, and family studies; and the problem of large-scale multiple testing and estimation.
