Gestational Trophoblastic Disease Treatment
At the new Women’s Cancer Center, our team of Gynecologic Cancer experts treats both the physical and emotional aspects of gestational trophoblastic disease (GTD). According to the American Cancer Society, GTD is almost always curable in the early stages, so it is important to seek the care of experienced specialists who can monitor your case.
Patients will also receive compassionate care, individualized education, and access to support groups and programs to help cope with this disease.
Depending on the type and stage of GTD, treatment may include:
- chemotherapy - the use of anticancer drugs to treat cancerous cells. In most cases, chemotherapy works by interfering with the cancer cell’s ability to grow or reproduce. Different groups of drugs work in different ways to fight cancer cells. In certain cases of GTD, chemotherapy is sometimes used together with radiation therapy and surgery.
- D&C suction dilation and curettage (D&C)
- hysterectomy (removal of the tumor and entire uterus), in women who no longer wish to have children
