Diagnosis and Treatment of Female & Gynecologic Cancers

The Gynecologic Oncology program offers comprehensive treatment options in a highly supportive environment for patients with reproductive tract cancers. We offer state-of-the-art treatment modalities in a caring, personalized environment.  Access to numerous research protocols and clinical trials of investigational chemotherapeutic agents is available.

Interdisciplinary Team Approach

Patients benefit from the intervention of a highly experienced, interdisciplinary treatment team, composed of gynecologic oncologists, radiation oncologists, medical oncologists, surgical oncologists, and specialized oncologic nurses and social workers.

The referring physician, patient, and family are all integral members of the treatment team. This team is dedicated to providing the best care while recognizing and helping with the emotional and social aspects of a cancer diagnosis.

Stanford Expertise

This team of health care providers meets weekly for a multidisciplinary gynecological tumor board. The tumor board allows experts to provide a thorough and collaborative review of your records, radiographs, and pathology results. When we discuss your case, physicians with very specific expertise in your area of cancer are involved.

Inclusive Care
Unlike many other institutions that hold tumor boards, we welcome patients at our meetings.  We are happy to include you in discussions of  treatment options, including standard and experimental or innovative therapies, and to confirm your diagnosis and staging (which can be especially important if you have a rare type of tumor).

A Partner with Your Physician
Each patient’s treatment plan is individualized and developed in collaboration with the referring physician. Patients are scheduled within one week of referral and written or telephone updates are provided after every patient visit.

The attending physician personally oversees the care and management of every patient and remains in close contact with the referring physicians for the duration of care. The attending physicians and oncology nurses remain available to patients at all times during their care.

The Gynecologic Oncology program is dedicated to improving the healthcare of women with reproductive cancers by education and early detection. We offer ongoing, individualized education and supportive group sessions to help patients understand and cope with their disease and treatment options.

We also provide frequent informational community programs to educate women on reproductive cancers and the importance of early detection.

Dr. Nelson Teng and Dr. Amreen Husain are also available for lecture presentations, tumor board discussions, or workshops on each of the gynecologic cancers and subjects related to cancer care for continuing medical education programs in area hospitals.
