Diagnosis and Treatment of Breast Cancer
The Cancer Center brings together a highly specialized team of physicians dedicated to providing you with the most advanced treatments, diagnostic techniques, and surveillance for breast cancer and routine breast care.
Our multidisciplinary team of experienced breast surgeons, oncologists, radiation oncologists, and radiologists work closely together to provide a team approach to individualized care.
As part of your individualized care, the breast cancer program is offering an online service that provides secure messaging between patients and their physicians, as well as appointment requests, lab results, and medication refill requests.
If you wish to sign up for this service, please ask for more information from clinic F. You will be asked to fill out a form and then you can register as a new user or log on.
Stanford Expertise
Stanford researchers have been instrumental in developing many of the cutting-edge technologies used to diagnose and treat cancer today, and are therefore intimately familiar with their use.
At the Cancer Center, we bring together state-of-the-art diagnostic methods and treatment approaches under one roof, meaning that your physician can choose the best and most appropriate care that is available anywhere today.
During the course of a consultation the breast surgeon will review your clinical information, radiological studies, and examine you. When indicated, the surgeon will perform diagnostic tests, such as fine needle aspiration biopsy or needle core biopsy during the same clinic visit. Every effort will be made to perform any additional radiologic studies the same day or promptly schedule tests or surgery during your same visit.
Diagnosis
Our new cutting-edge computerized diagnostic equipment, provides our patients the most advanced mammographic and sonographic evaluations.
Our all digital mammography suite features the breakthrough technology of a Computer Aided Detection program, CAD, that analyzes each mammogram and/or sonogram using computer algorithms.
This advanced technology, combined with our experienced, dedicated physicians, can help detect breast cancer in the early stages.
Treatment
In addition, using the latest radiation therapy technologies and surgical approaches, Cancer Center physicians have developed more targeted breast cancer treatment plans. With these advances in hand Stanford physicians can not only provide optimal breast cancer treatment, but also give women more breast-sparing treatment options.
Advanced Experimental Therapies
Stanford physicians frequently participate in national and international clinical trials, including those in chemotherapy and cancer prevention. Such trial participation allows doctors to provide their patients with even more treatment options.
High-Risk Surveillance
Many women are unsure whether their family cancer history or previous breast health problems signify that they may be “high-risk” for breast cancer. The Jill and John Freidenrich Breast Center encourages such women to come in for consultation. We strive to guide women on issues concerning breast surveillance, genetic testing, breast-cancer prevention, and if appropriate, prophylactic surgery.
